Drive for Mac: How to Sync and Access Your Files Across Devices

If you have another storage device, such as an external drive connected to your Mac, you can move files to that device. Media files such as photos and videos can use a lot of storage space, so you can take steps such as these:

Access all your Box files directly from your desktop, without taking up much hard drive space. Box Drive is natively integrated into Mac Finder and Windows Explorer, making it easy to share and collaborate on files.

Drive For Mac

Hello, I recently encrypted my USB drive using BitLocker on my Windows 10 computer. I then tried to open the drive on my Macbook Pro, and it said that the drive was unreadable. Many forums say that I need a third-party software to decrypt the drive, but I'm not sure if I trust those programs. Is there any way to open my USB drive on my Mac without using third-party software? Thank you!

If you don't want to set up a Window virtual machine on Mac, then use a third-party app instead. Those apps usually has additional file system support for encrypted Bitlocker drivers. Hence, you need to install extra extensions and disable startup security option on M1 or M2 Mac as I did with sysgeeker Bitlocker Reader app, which works on Intel and Apple Silicon Mac.

Unfortunately, there is no way to open a BitLocker-encrypted USB drive on a Mac without using third-party software. This is because BitLocker uses a proprietary encryption method that is not compatible with the Mac operating system. As such, you will need to find and use a third-party program that is designed to decrypt BitLocker-encrypted drives in order to be able to access your USB drive on your Mac. I would recommend doing some research to find a reputable and trustworthy program to use for this purpose. Many forums and websites should have suggestions for good programs to use.

In my opinion, the best third-party software to use for decrypting BitLocker-encrypted USB drives on a Mac is the SYSGeeker Bitlocker reader for Mac or UUBYTE BitLocker Geeker. This program is designed specifically for decrypting BitLocker drives on a Mac, and it is very easy to use. I would highly recommend it.

Box Drive brings your entire Box folder tree to your desktop. All of the files you have on Box are accessible from your desktop Box folder. Your content is streamed directly to your desktop, so you can access all of your files without using much hard drive space. Box Drive includes a search feature that allows you to search all of the files you have stored in Box. And, Box Drive is integrated into Windows Explorer and Mac Finder so you do not have to access a separate application to access your files.

Although the current trends favor using the cloud and decentralized applications for storage and file transfer, the USB drive still plays a relevant role in business applications. A USB drive requires no internet connection, can transfer files to and from a local device quickly, can be physically disconnected and secured away and are physical objects that can carry your branding and company identity.

If you're interested in formatting USB drives for business use, it is crucial to understand that the process depends on whether your company primarily uses Windows PCs, Macs or a mix of both. Here are the step-by-step procedures for all three use cases.

Brand-new USB drives, from single thumbsticks to USB wristbands sold wholesale, cannot be immediately used and recognized by a computer because they have not yet been formatted to use a file system that the computer can recognize. Depending on the OS your business computers use the most, you have three formatting options: NTFS, APFS or exFAT.

USB Memory Direct specializes in high-quality custom USB drives. We carry a large selection of uniquely-shaped models, serving as ideal bases to create your perfect branded flash drives, from standard thumbsticks to woodblock drives, USB business cards and even flexible wristband drives.

Hey, I'm Ubie (You-Bee) the mascot of USB Memory Direct and by far the biggest fan of USB drives out of all of us all here. If you want to know more about USB drives, some of the cool marketing stuff we do, or technology advancements we are working on keep an eye out for posts under this account!

UPDATE: Apple released an update that resolves the issue below. To resolve this issue, update to macOS 12.3 or higher. If unable to update to 12.3, then the steps below will still allow the drive to be accessed.

Mapping the P: drive is important when it is necessary to access, save, and share project files. Computers on campus provided by the university and connected to the Wolftech domain automatically map this drive upon login. Computers off campus, as well as those personal computers on campus, may need to map these drives manually. In order to do this, it will be necessary have the university's VPN client software installed on your machine.

It is not possible at this time to use the Macintosh operating system itself to automatically map drives upon each subsequent logon, although you can add individual servers to a list of favorites, which you can access later if needed.

Alternatively, a second method using ExpanDrive is available which would allow you to have the drive mapped automatically every time you log in to your computer, so long as you have a working internet connection. When using this method, however, you will need to make sure that you change your password in ExpanDrive every time your Unity password is changed. Otherwise, it will fail to function properly. To utilize this method, see the corresponding FAQs page here.

Note. Although you may have to map the drive again after each subsequent logon, Mac OS can remember servers that you have previously mapped. Simply click on the + button (Fig. 3 above) to add the server path to your list of favorite servers.

When the computer establishes an initial contact with the server, you will be prompted to enter your Unity ID and Password (Fig. 4). Do NOT select Remember this password in my keychain, as doing so may damage your permissions. When you have entered your login information, click Connect to map the drive.

There are all kinds of reasons why you might want to format a drive. Perhaps you are selling you Mac and you want to completely erase it so that nobody can access your date. Or perhaps you are setting up an external drive for backups. Maybe you want to copy something onto a drive to share with a PC or another Mac. Or it might be that you bought a drive to use with your Mac only to discovered it is pre-formatted for Windows.

We also have a tutorial on using Disk Utility on a Mac here. Other reasons you might want to use Disk Utility include making a bootable macOS install drive (covered here) and if you are doing a clean install of macOS.

Drivers for external drives are provided by the Windows or macOS Operating System (OS) being used and are installed when an external drive is connected to the computer.
